Curriculum

All students participate in Physical Education in Years 9, 10 & 11. Students have 4 hours a fortnight in Year 9 and 3 hours of core PE in Years 10 & 11. Students have the opportunity to study GCSE, BTEC and A-Level PE. The department currently has 3 indoor spaces that are used during lesson time – a large sports hall, small hall and old gym. Students are offered a huge range of activities during lessons and in extra curricular clubs. The department encourages every student to participate in extra curricular activities and students are able to take full advantage of the activities on offer at lunchtimes and after school.

In Year 9 students follow a timetable (based on their gender) including sports such as rugby, football, badminton, tennis, netball, dance, rounders, athletics, gymnastics, basketball and cricket.

In Years 10 & 11 students cover a range of activities depending on their strengths. We tailor our lessons to suit the strengths of the students. Every student leaves Stratton with either a full or half GCSE in PE. If students opt to take GCSE PE then they get 8 lessons a fornight – 5 practical and 3 theory. Those students who don’t opt for PE have 3 lessons a fornight – 2 practical and 1 theory. Every students sits a written exam at then end of Year 11 and partakes in a practical exam also.
