WHY CHOOSE ART AND DESIGN?

A Level Art and Design provides students the opportunity to develop a broad range of Art and Design skills that could lead to further education. The course offers students the opportunity to explore practical, critical and contextual work through a range of 2D and or 3D processes and media.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Students complete three small projects exploring different media and themes before specialising in a discipline of their choice. This part of the course offers students the opportunity to build a range of skills often required before starting a Higher Education course.

STUDENTS SHOULD ELECT TO FOCUS ON A SINGLE SPECIALISM CHOOSING FROM:

Painting And Drawing, Photography, Textiles
OR a combined choice of 2 of the above

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Personal Investigation – 60%
This will include a portfolio of work showing a personal response to a starting point, brief, scenario or stimulus.
AND A related study: an extended response of a guided minimum of 1000-3000 words.

Externally Set Task – 40%
This will start on the 1st February in the final year of the course, and will provide students with a number of themes. Students produce a response based on one of these options.

Students are expected to visit galleries and studios independently as well as part of the school organised visits.

STUDENTS MAY ALSO ELECT TO FOCUS ON A SINGLE SPECIALISM INCLUDING: PAINTING AND DRAWING, PHOTOGRAPHY OR TEXTILES.
