WHY CHOOSE DRAMA AND THEATRE?
Drama encompasses a study of human life as we all enquire about the world around us.
Studying theatre develops your skill on many levels including artistic, intellectual and social development. You will explore the world around you, engaging in ethical and social issues that will challenge you. You will explore the world of theatre, experimenting with many styles and forms of theatre that will challenge and entertain audiences.
Your work will encompass modern and traditional theatre in devised and scripted work. This course will enable all to broaden their acting skills as well as communication and analytical skills. This course is suitable for all wanting to pursue an acting career or broaden their curriculum.
AIMS OF THE COURSE
In this course you will develop performance & production skills through drama & theatre. You will develop practical & theoretical aspects interpreting plays from different periods & genres and making critical & evaluative judgements of live theatre. This course offers both practical and theory elements of theatre.
WHAT WILL I STUDY?
Unit 1 – Exploration of Drama & Theatre. You will look at two contrasting plays & analyse them to develop understanding of how plays can be interpreted & realised into a performance.
Unit 2 – Theatre Text in Performance – this unit focuses on performance skills. You will perform a monologue & a group piece.
Unit 3 – Exploration of Dramatic Performance – This is about the creation of an original piece of theatre. You follow the process of working as a professional theatre company to develop & perform your own piece of theatre.
Unit 4 – Theatre Text in Context – You will study one set text & a historical play in context. You will analyse plays & create your own directorial vision for the play whilst evaluating a live performance of a historical play.
