Children’s Play, Learning and Development

Head of Department: Miss S Russell

BTEC Level 2 Award in Children’s Play, Learning and Development

This two year course is assessed through two units that you complete as assignments or coursework and one written exam paper. You will learn about children’s growth and development (Unit 1 – externally assessed), about the value of pay in a child’s development (Unit 2 – coursework) and the principles of early year’s practice (Unit 3 – coursework).

You will be expected to take up a child care placement for Work Experience in Year 10. Your work experience is vital in order for you to complete your assignments or coursework.

You will also develop skills in research, teamwork, communication and presentation as well as ICT. You should have a genuine interest in working with children and realise from the outset that the course is NOT only about ‘caring for babies’. There is also a scientific and academic aspect to the course.

Students, who prefer a more hands on approach to learning, continually achieve success and obtain high grades on this course.
